The natural reserve in the Amazon jungle is the Manu National Park in peru, is a perfect place to see the giant otters (Lobos del Río) in their natural and wild state and above all in a place where they live super safe and Far from people who hunt animals, the river otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) is the largest of the 13 otters that currently exist in the world and manu park is the home of this animals. It is one of the most threatened species in the Amazon region, considered in danger of extinction. In Peru it is considered endangered (EN) and is protected by the Peruvian State.

Information on the population status and geographical distribution of the river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) in the Madre de Dios region (Manu National Park), during the years 2014 and 2015. The registered population was 128 individuals, grouped into 22 family groups, Its sectors with the highest abundances were in the Manu National Park with 2.2 ind, followed by its Bahuaja Sonene National Park with 1.43. The largest population of river otters outside the protected natural areas (ANP) was recorded in the Las Piedras River basin and the Los Amigos basin with 0.43 ind/10 km., the greatest threat to river otter populations in Madre de Dios is the cause of the degradation of their habitats, alluvial mining, agriculture and livestock farming near their river beds. This situation suggests the urgent need for the establishment of conservation initiatives throughout the basin of our Madre de Dios River.

ITINERARI:

DAY 01: CUSCO – MANU PARK – CLOUD FORES – PARAISO INN LODGE

We will leave the city of Cusco in our mobility, ascending to the heights of andes and along our journey we will observe the natural paradise of the mountains covered by snowy and the village of Paucartambo which is the capital of the folklore of Cusco, continuing our journey to reach Ajanaco 3,560 meters, where Manu National Park trip begins. Then, we will descend to the mysterious cloud forest full of beautiful orchids, flowers, heliconias and many bromeliads, In the high jungle we will walk through the forest for 2 hours aproximately and we will see the ritual of the Peruvian national birds, (andean coks of the rock). And also we will might to see many birds and some monkeys, In the afternoon we will arrive to our typical lodge that is locaitedat 670 meters above sea level.

DAY 02: Pilcopata Lodge – Atalaya Port – Manu Reserved Zone – Manu Machiguenga Lodge.

Very early after our breakfast we will continue our journey in our car for about an hour until Atalaya port, where we will take our boat and start travel by Madre de Dios River” between 4 to 5 hours until Boca Manu from where start the reserved zone of Manu National Park. after registering to enter to Manu Reserved zone we will continue our journey by Manu River that is already within the reserved area, along our journey we will also see a variety of birds such as herons, cormorants, kingfisher and many vultures of which the most spectacular is the condor of the jungle, king of the vultures (scarcoramphus papa) among others unmissable animals of the Amazon rainforest like monkeys, turtles, alligators, birds, and with luck the jaguar (panther onca) and many more, In the afternoon we will arrive at our lodge. After a short break we will organize our first walk in the primary fores and pristine jungle, night walk, night in the lodge (beds) shower and toilets available.

DAY 03: Lodge – Salvador Lake – Odservations of Monkeys – Lodge. 

This morning we will dedicate to visit “Salvador Lake, which is locaited near to the lodge, we will take our boat for 20 minutes and then walk aproximately 30 minutes for the middle of the jungle until Salvador lake, for visit the lake We will use a “Catamaran” which will give us the possibility to observe from close the giant otters and a variety of rare birds such as sultana cock, or Agami heron and some caimans like the big black caimans, turtles and monkeys. after to visit the lake we will return to the lodge where we will enjoy our lunch. In the afternoon we will going to walk searching mammals etc., This walk we will be very interesting because you will learn the secrets of the rainforest. Overnight at the lodge and optional night walk during 1 hours).

 DAY 04: Lodge – Otorongo Lake – Manu River – Boca Manu Lodge.

After breakfast, we will take our boat for going to visit the Otorongo lake that is the second mos importad lake in the reserved zone of manu national park, In this lake is possible to see again the giant river otters and the black caimans. from one tower we will observing the stunning rainforest and more species of monkeys such us spider monkey, howler monkey, Emperador monkey. Then will continue the trip by manu river until limonal ranger statios, where we will do our last walk in the reserved zone of manu park for see more animals.
Late in the afternoon we will we will continue the trip to our next lodge that is locaited in the cultural zone of Manu national park.
In the afternoon optional walk through one of our trails close to the lodge or night walk.

DAY 05: Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick – Diamante Native Village – Amazon Arpia Lodge.

Early in the morning we will going to visit the parrot clay lick that is located on the banks of Manu river, where you will see many species of parrot and small macaws eating the mineral from the walls. After to adserve this fantastic activity of the parrot and macaws we will return by boat to our next lodge that is locaited betwins the high and low jungle.
on the way back we gonna make a stop in the native community of diamante and visit the house of one local family for see how the jungle people live, these people still maintain their original custom. Then we will continue our journey to our next lodge. This day we will travel more than 6 hours by boat.
Night at the lodge.

DAY 06: Lodge – Atalaya Port – Cloud Forest – Cusco.

unfortunately is the last day in the jungle, Early in the morning we will see some birds around the lodge.
Breakfast at the lodge, then we will return in our boat to atalaya port where our car will be waiting for us to take back to cusco city, the return trip is through the cloud forest and finally reaching the Andes to Cusco.
arrive time to cusco will be at 6:00 pm aproximately.
