Sandoval Lake is located within the Tambopata National Reserve and is considered the largest lake in Madre de Dios with the greatest biodiversity of flora and fauna in the Amazon.
During this 2-day trip you will live a unique and unforgettable experience in contact with an intact jungle, surrounded by many plants and animals in their natural habitat. Our lodge is located 100 meters from Sandoval Lake where we will spend the night in our comfortable rooms with all services included. Sandoval Lake is the refuge and home of many animals that are in danger of extinction, such as the river wolf, 5-meter black caiman, among other animals that are the charm of every visitor.

DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY:
DAY 01: PUERTO MALDONADO – SANDOVAL LAKE (LODGE)
Reception at the airport or bus terminal in the city of Puerto Maldonado and transfer to our office to provide you with all the necessary information for the tour and give you your entrance ticket to the Tambopata National Reserve. After a short break at the office we will begin our adventure in the rainforest. We will take our outboard motor boat and travel along the Madre de Dios River for an average of 45 minutes until we reach the port of Sandoval Lake. During the boat trip we can observe different types of fishing birds and some monkeys that usually live in the trees near the river. Once we reach the port of Sandoval Lake we will begin a walk through the rainforest until we reach one of the most famous and important lakes of the Tambopata National Reserve. This walk is for an average of 1 hour and 15 minutes observing some animals such as macaws, parrots, oropendolas, monkeys, agoutis, felines etc. Once we reach Sandoval Lake we will use a small wooden canoe to navigate and finally reach our typical tourist lodge that is located within the area protected by the Peruvian State.
Once we arrive at our lodge we will give you your rooms with all the services available and then we will enjoy our delicious lunch. After a restful rest we will use our wooden canoe and visit Lake Salvador and we will be able to observe all kinds of animals that live in this part of the jungle. Lake Sandoval is very important for many species of animals that are in danger of extinction and they chose this place to take refuge and live away from civilization. In the lake live an innumerable type of birds such as herons, shanshos (hoatzin), toucans, parrots, macaws, etc. etc. The most important animals that we can see in this lake are the River Wolf that lives in a family and there are more than 8 individuals, turtles and much more.
At night we will again visit Lake Sandoval to see alligators of different sizes and the largest is the black alligator that the adult reaches more than 5 meters long, and many amphibians that are easy to see.
DAY 02: SANDOVAL LAKE – TROPICAL FOREST – PUERTO MALDONADO
We will have a very early breakfast and once again we will visit the famous Sandoval Lake. This visit will be short, about 1 hour on average, and we will have another good opportunity to see more animals in the lake. Then we will take a walk through the dense Amazon jungle in search of monkeys, sloths, tapirs, peccaries, etc. This walk will be very special because we will be able to see many medicinal plants and trees that are more than 1000 years old and will not hesitate to take some photos. We will do all these activities with our ecological and professional guide who will explain to us step by step everything we can see in this adventure.
After our walk we will return to our lodge to have lunch and prepare our bags to return to the city of Puerto Maldonado. We will return by the same route as the outbound trip, again we will use our canoe to cross the lake and we will walk to the Madre de Dios River where our boat with an outboard motor will be waiting for us to take us to Puerto Maldonado.
Approximate time of arrival in Puerto Maldonado is 4:30 pm.

Amazon Tour Sandoval Lake
