Amazon Tambopata Jungle and Adventure
Tambopata National Reserve
The Tambopata National Reserve
It is a protected natural area located in the department of Madre de Dios, in Puerto Maldonado, and extends across the districts of Tambopata and Inambari.
- Created on September 4, 2000 by Supreme Decree DS No. 048-2000-AG, this reserve covers a vast territory of 274,690 hectares. Its average altitude is 300 meters above sea level, within a range that varies between 200 and 400 meters above sea level.
- This area stands out for its unique biodiversity and is an invaluable refuge for the southern Amazon rainforest of Peru.
- In fact, one of the main objectives of its creation is to protect the flora, fauna and ecological processes that characterize this ecosystem. In this sense, the reserve has been established with three key objectives.
- First, it seeks to preserve the species and ecosystems that inhabit the region.
- Secondly, it promotes collaboration with local communities for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources such as chestnut trees, favouring recreational activities within its landscape.
- Finally, the reserve is committed to sustainable development, supporting research and management of renewable natural resources, which contributes to both the well-being of the region and the progress of the country.
Through these efforts, the Tambopata National Reserve not only protects one of the richest forests in biodiversity on the planet, but also fosters a conservation model that integrates the local community into the process, generating both environmental and socioeconomic benefits.
