DETAILED ITINERARY OF THE JUNGLE TRIP:
Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Entrance to the Tambopata National Reserve
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, you will be greeted at the bus terminal or airport and transferred to the Orellana Expeditions office. There, our professional guide will give you a warm welcome and provide all the details of the tour. If you bring large luggage, we recommend repacking the essentials for your stay, as you can safely leave the rest of your belongings at our office.
The trip begins with a drive on a paved road for 48 km, followed by 18 km of gravel road to the banks of the Tambopata River (approximately 1.5 hours). From there, we will take a boat to reach our lodge, where a warm welcome awaits us. After settling into your comfortable accommodations, you will enjoy a delicious lunch and time to rest.
In the afternoon, we will enter the jungle for an introductory walk, where you will have the opportunity to observe giant trees such as the ceiba and the chestnut, as well as several species of monkeys and tropical birds. As night falls, we will embark on a night walk to discover the fascinating nocturnal animals such as caimans, tarantulas, snakes and much more.

Day 2: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Wildlife and Adventure in the Jungle
This day we start very early, at 4:30 am, with a light breakfast. Then, we will board a boat to go to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, considered the largest in the Amazon. During the 1.5-hour trip, you will have the opportunity to spot roncoscos (the largest rodent in the world), sachavacas, and if you are lucky, even the majestic jaguar.
Upon arriving at the clay lick, we will comfortably settle in to enjoy one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the world: hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to eat clay, rich in minerals, which is crucial for their diet. You will be able to observe scarlet, red and green macaws, and the iconic blue and yellow macaws, flying over your head in a unique visual experience.
Breakfast will be served in the same place, while you enjoy this fascinating natural event. Afterwards, we will return to the lodge for lunch and then embark on a hike of approximately 3 hours through the Amazonian lowland rainforest, with the goal of observing giant trees, and perhaps some monkeys and huanganas (wild fish).
In the afternoon, you will have the option to relax or join another night walk in search of animals active at night.

Day 3: Chuncho – Macaw Clay Lick – Return to Puerto Maldonado
We will wake up to the sound of howler monkeys and parrots in the air. After a nutritious breakfast, we will take our boat to return to the point where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Puerto Maldonado.
We will use the same route to go and, upon arriving in the city, we will transfer you to the Orellana Expeditions office, where you can pick up your luggage and enjoy transportation to the bus terminal or airport.
