Collpa Macaws Chuncho and Sandoval Lake
Collpa Macaws Chuncho and Lake Sandoval
Macaws (Ara genera: Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca and Diopsittaca)
They are charismatic parrots that remain poorly known in the wild.
Many of the macaw species are found in the Amazon basin in South America, which also contains a highly diverse and complex ecosystem of global importance that is still poorly known today.
It also includes 60% of the world’s remaining rainforest (Laurance et al., 2002).
The large size and wide-ranging habits of macaws, together with their popularity in human society, make them suitable umbrella species for conservation in the Amazon region (Roberge and Angelstam, 2004).

The Tambopata National Reserve was created on September 4, 2000, by Supreme Decree DS No. 048-2000-AG, with an area of 274,690 ha. This protected natural area has an average altitude gradient of 300 meters above sea level in a range of 200-400 meters above sea level.
Within its objectives for the creation of the reserve, three lines of action have been established: first, to protect the flora, fauna and ecological processes of a sample of the southern Amazonian forest of Peru; second, to generate conservation processes with the population within the reserve, with the aim of using resources such as chestnut trees and the landscape sustainably for recreation; and finally, to contribute to the sustainable development of the region and the country, based on knowledge of biological diversity and the management of various renewable natural resources.
