Tour: Experiential tourism & Agrotourism (Chonta and Humantay Lagoon)
This tour offers an immersive experience in the Chonta community, combining experiential tourism and agrotourism. This unique experience allows visitors to deeply connect with Andean culture and rural life, offering an authentic view of life in the Andes with the flight of the condors.
DETAILED TRAVEL ITINERARY:
DAY 01: CUSCO – CHONTA COMMUNITY – AGROTOURISM – EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM
At 5:00 am departure from the city of Cusco to the Chonta community.
The trip by car lasts an average of 2 hours; approximately 08:00 am reception in the community and we will introduce you to your new family who will be happy to welcome you into their home, your new family will provide you with all their services such as food, lodging and will give you all the information you need to be comfortable in the company of your new Chonta family.
The family will provide you with a special welcome breakfast and then we will begin with our experiential tourism activity with the families of the Chonta community who are dedicated to the herding of animals such as sheep, horses and cattle and the cultivation of products and fruits. Depending on the date you make the trip, they will teach you the different activities.
For example, in the months of November and December are the months that different products are planted such as corn, wheat, potatoes, beans, broad beans among other products, using ancestral tools such as the plow with bulls, chaquitaclla and lampas.
In the months of April to July are the harvest months and the month of August is the month of the earth and the Apus, where the shamans or Inca priests perform ceremonies as offerings to Mother Earth and different Inca gods, and between the months of September and October the land is prepared for the planting of the following season.
After doing some activities with the local family we will prepare our super nutritious food together with the local family.
This will be the first night with the local family, we will make a campfire outdoors and tell some stories and legends of the Peruvian Andes. Some nights we can appreciate the wonderful constellations (the Milky Way) figures of animals etc.
DAY 02: AGROTOURISM – FLIGHT OF THE CONDORS IN CHONTA
The sunrise between mountains and Andes is very special with experiential tourism, the screech of the birds and the cry of the rooster and other animals will be our natural alarm clock, we will harvest some fruits or products and eggs from the chicken or milk the cow’s milk to prepare our nutritious breakfast, then we will take our animals to pasture and we will do some work in the farm such as harvesting or planting some products and we will also learn about an avocado crop and other fruits.
At noon we will enjoy a delicious lunch and then we will begin a walk of approximately 2 hours to visit the Chonta condor viewpoint.
The Chonta condor viewpoint is located in the Apurimac canyon,
Referred to as one of the deepest canyons in South America and probably in the world. In this place we will appreciate the majestic flight of our Andean condor in its natural habitat.
Then we will return to the town and appreciate the Andean sunset which is a spectacle, the reflection of the mountains and the snowy peak of our Salkantay which makes the color of a sunset something unique and mysterious.

DAY 03: CHONTA – HUMANTAY LAGOON – CUSCO
With the cry of our rooster we will wake up very early and enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by the local family, after breakfast we will begin our adventure activity which is cycling,
We will give you the complete equipment for our activity such as bicycles, helmets, vests, knee pads and gloves, The cycling activity will be for an average of 1 hour approximately and will be pure downhill, then we will continue the trip by car until we reach Soraypampa and then begin the walk to the Humantay lagoon, the walking time is for an average of 1 hour and 30 minutes approximately,
Upon arriving at the Humantay lagoon our guide will explain to us about the importance of this place and its different snow-capped mountains that are found in this place.
The Humantay lagoon is considered one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Cusco Andes and has an incomparable color, being a turquoise blue.
After visiting the Humantay lagoon we will return to Soraypampa to take our car which will take us to the town of Mollepata where we will enjoy our Peruvian buffet lunch. After lunch we will continue the trip to the city of Cusco. Arrival time in Cusco approximately 5:00 pm.
